Pfizer and its suppliers are offering an alternative for the cost of a “free, confidential consultation” with a doctor for mento get them to prescribe a treatment for erectile dysfunction, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)said on Friday.
The move will allow men to buy the medicines in the UK, the MHRA said, making it easier for men to take the medicines when they are sexually active.
It added that “when a man takes a prescription for erectile dysfunction, it will only be for an individual patient” and that men should always consult a doctor before taking any medication.
Men will be able to buy the drugs on the NHS if they want it, it said.
Doctors will be able to advise men on how to take the tablets when they are going to engage in sexual activity.
Experts are expecting more discussions between patients and doctors, as well as a “better safety net” in the hope of helping the medicine to be more effective in treating erectile dysfunction.
The medicines will be available to buy at pharmacies, supermarkets, convenience stores and pharmacies of all sizes, including supermarkets.
Experts are also expecting that the MHRA will make a decision about which brands to prescribe.
It said that it had received the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s (MHRA) advice on how to provide a service for men with erectile dysfunction.
Dr David Brennan, a consultant urology and sex medicine urologist at Imperial College ofmedicine in London, said: “The decision to prescribe Viagra, Cialis and Levitra should be taken as a matter of course, but we hope that this information will help men who are struggling to get or maintain an erection to seek treatment and have it delivered to them.”
He added: “It will be important for patients to get their information to them so that they can make decisions about their treatment and when they need it.
“This has been an important step in improving the quality of life for many men, particularly those who have had surgery on their penis.
“The MHRA is working closely with their healthcare professionals to ensure men who may be experiencing erectile dysfunction are treated appropriately.
“Men who are unable to get or maintain an erection should see their GP, and all other appropriate men should be treated with a suitable treatment.”

The makers of Cialis say they have been asked to list a “vitamin-free” product in a public recall.
The manufacturer of Cialis said Tuesday that it had “reached out to the FDA to have its product listed in the public recall,” according to a press release.
“The FDA has asked for comment from Cialis maker Lilly,” the company said in a statement.
Cialis maker Eli Lilly said it had received the letter of the order from the FDA and that “we are taking steps to ensure that the recalled products remain on the shelves of the American market.”
It said it “provides a product recall of all Cialis and Tadalafil products sold in the United States” to the FDA “as a result of the drug’s use in the United States and its expiration.”
The recalled products are in black and white, and are labeled: “Cialis’s,” “Tadalafil’s,” “Levitra’s,” “Levitra’s Tadalafil and Tadalafil and Staxyn’s Cialis” and “Cialis,” respectively.
The FDA said it would be in the best interest of consumers if Cialis, Eli Lilly’s Cialis and Staxyn’s products are recalled, as well as the rest of the group’s products.
Lilly’s recall is based on a series of drug tests that have been conducted since September 2010.
Tadalafil is approved for use in the United States to treat erectile dysfunction, which is a medical condition that affects between 5 percent and 20 percent of the male population.
Lilly’s recall has been used to increase the number of people who may suffer from erectile dysfunction, and in recent years have been on the drug for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition that may cause an enlarged prostate.
In 2009, Tadalafil was the second most popular erectile dysfunction medication, followed by Viagra and Levitra.
Lilly’s recall is part of a broader recall of the drug that could affect the way other drugs are marketed, said Robyn E. Williams, a clinical manager with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Office of Criminal Investigations.
E-drug manufacturer Pfizer and its subsidiary Lilly, which produces the drug, have been sued over allegations that they illegally marketed the drug. Eli Lilly said it is confident its own drug will not be recalled.
Lilly has said it is recalling its drugs to the public. It also said it is making available a list of its products by calling the recall “a voluntary recall.”
Tadalafil and Cialis are in the United States market for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, and are on the market for other drugs for which they are not currently listed. The group is also on the market for a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension that could potentially lead to strokes and heart attacks.
Whether you can take Tadalafil at the same time as your other medications will depend on which medications you are taking.

• Seizure medication:- carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone
• Heart or blood pressure medication:- disopyramide, amiodarone, quinidine and procainamide
• Anti-viral medication:- telaprevir, atazanavir, retonavir, indinavir, saquinavir and cobicistat
• Recreational drugs:- amyl nitrate (poppers)
